Yes, they can make those changes. (Unless there is a union contract in place that specifies a certain benefit level.)

In fact, they could have just canceled the policy entirely and decided not to offer insurance at all. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it sounds like the company was struggling to afford health insurance for employees and decided to compromise rather than stop offering insurance at all.

By the way, the co-worker with the sick daughter should be able to work out a payment arrangement with the hospital. He may even qualify for financial assistance programs, where they will discount the $1,000. (I work for a large hospital system, and we have programs like that. He should definitely inquire with his daughter's hospital.)

It actually is relatively common for COBRA materials to be sent after insurance has been ended. It really depends upon how quickly the information that you've terminated from a company is passed along to the benefits administrator that the company uses. As long as they're giving you at least a 60 day enrollment window, and starting the coverage retroactively to the date your insurance otherwise ended, then they're compliant with the law.

If you have a good relationship with your doctor, you might ask if they'd be willing to wait a week or two before submitting your claim. If they're not willing to do that, then ask them to invoice you. That'll buy you a couple weeks to get enrolled into you insurance and make your premium payments.

For peace of mind, put your name on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They'll notify the other 2 bureaus and must be renewed every 90 days in order to keep it active. As long as you notified the companies in question, you did your part. Just remember never to carry your social security card or any account numbers in your wallet. You're not the first person who made this mistake. If i can be of any further help, just let me know

I know what I am about to say will be unpopular but I have to remind you that it is both your right and your responsibility to weigh your options out and make up your own mind. That is in essence the heart of any democracy. The will of the people in individual thought. Also, it is to be hoped that if you realize, as you seem to, the far reaching effect of your decision either way it is not something that you want to decide on the strength of Yahoo Answers. May commonsense and God guide your vote.

  12. amazing work, i would think it’s a photo!

  13. You should go with a high deductible plan, which has a lower premium and find a supplemental program to cover any catastrophic event. Thats just how health care works these days. My dad sells insurance for Aflac so he knows all about this (he helped me with this question and has been selling insurance for more than 15 years). Just follow this advice and you should be fine. But you MUST HAVE coverage just in case of a catastrophic event. Hope I helped! :D D

  14. wow. all those little details are just perfection. and beautiful music too. 5 star:)

In my opinion the HSA qualified plans are the better plan for most people. That $3000 that your employer puts into the account is considered your money. It rolls over and adds up each year and you can take it with you when you leave. You pay your doctor visits and prescriptions from the account and the amount you pay goes toward the deductible.

For example, you visit the doctor. The doctor files with the insurance company. The insurance company sends you a summary of benefits showing the total amount billed and the amount approved. In my area the average cost billed for a doctor visit is around $150; the amount approved is $70 to $90. You will then receive a bill from the doctor for the $70 to $90 approved and you pay that out of the HSA account. The amount you pay then goes toward the deductible.

If something catastrophic happens the most you will be out of pocket the first year is $1000 ($4000 deductible minus the $3000 your employer contributes), which is probably much less than the co-pays and co-insurance you would have had on the traditional plan for the same catastrophic occurrence.

Divorce is a very stressful, emotionally trying event to go through. And it is not quick and painless, but often dragged out and painful. I can be downright traumatic, like a death in the family. Yes, it can bring out the "inner-trash" in anyone, no matter how well established they are. Hurt, pride, sorrow, anger, fear, all are at play here. This is life-changing, even more so when there are children involved, born or unborn. So, if a person is already prone to being trashy, mean, rude and crude (like you make your ex-wife out to be), then they are quite capable of being worse than you even thought possible. Claire sounds scared to me, and angry, and jealous. And who knows if she really means what she says or is just spouting off.
edit – the power went off last night before I could add that you should tell Claire that the police have been advised of her threats. Also, both you and Krystka should keep a cell phone (911 on speed dial) or pager on you at all times, so you could alert Eddie or the police if needed. Lastly, maybe get a gun, just in case you need it in an extreme emergency. You make Claire sound like a real psycho, and if she's that bad, who knows what underground and other criminal connections she has.
Your last question would take too long to answer. My husband and I are not your average couple and neither is our relationship, but I will say this…. because honesty and openness were lacking in the months preceding, things got pretty bad in the months after. Not trashy, but very painful.

Thanks for all the thumbs-down. You guys really do take this all very seriously, don't you? ; P I want to hear from Claire!
